Hood River Police, March 31 - April 6
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (one), harassment (one), theft (three), trespass (one), warrant (two).
Notable incidents
Four theft reports. Shoplifting (two incidents), stolen bicycle, and an ex-employee charging fuel to a business account. In one incident, two Oregon residents were charged with theft after stealing items from a local store. One was arrested and lodged at NORCOR for a parole violation and was additionally charged with trespass and theft of lost or mislaid property, and also received a citation for traffic violations.
Two warrant arrests. In one incident, officers arrested and lodged an adult resident at NORCOR for an outstanding arrest warrant issued out of Las Vegas, Nev.
One DUII arrest. During a traffic stop, officers noticed the driver showed signs of impairment. The driver consented to field sobriety tests and was later arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. They provided a breath test and were released to a sober party.
A resident reported a tree from a neighboring property fell and caused damage to his home.
The Dalles Police, April 5 - 12
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Assault (one), charge not logged (five), criminal mischief (three), criminal mistreatment (one), escape (one), parole violation (one), possession controlled substance (one), resisting arrest (one), theft (one), trespass (one), unauthorized entry into motor vehicle (one), warrant (nine).
Notable incidents
Two warrant arrests. In one incident, an individual was contacted on foot near Mill Creek, and arrested on a misdemeanor warrant out of Wasco County. An officer used force, as the person had a weapon by their hands. They retrieved a knife and skateboard.
An individual was arrested for unauthorized entry into motor vehicle, criminal mischief and criminal trespass after another person reported their attempt to enter a residence by force.
An individual was arrested after they allegedly broke into a personal vehicle on Sixth Street and taking items from it.
Twenty-two mental health calls logged.
Fifteen animal calls. Dog welfare checks, missing dogs, allegedly aggressive dog, barking dogs, dogs at large, vehicle-struck cat, two cats shot by pellet gun.
Eight theft reports. Items from shopping cart, vehicle from Tenth, No Dumpster Diving sign, employee theft, dark blue 18-speed mountain bike, shoplifting. In one incident, a person was arrested for trespass and theft after taking items from a store. In another, a purplish Nissan pickup, nonfunctional and in need of a two, disappeared from Federal Street.
Six vehicle crashes. In one incident, two vehicles T-boned near E. 11th and Federal Street April 5. One came to rest partially blocking the sidewalk. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue also took a case number. Two tows were needed, with on vehicle on three wheels, the other with all wheels up. A court date was given and report taken. In another, a three-vehicle crash blocked Hostetler and W. Sixth April 8, before one vehicle took off and one person took off on foot. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue and Wasco County Sheriff also responded, and a tow was requested.
In another, The Dalles assisted with an incident involving a scooter operator who was hit by a vehicle near Sixth Street. The vehicle stopped to talk, but then left. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue also took a case number, but the person refused medical attention. The driver was cited for a driving while suspended violation, and reached a civil compromise with the scooter operator.
Three hit-and-run reports. In one incident, a vehicle on Sixth was hit the night before April 7. In another, a reporting party and their child were both in a vehicle when it was hit on Seventh. The other vehicle left, but the reporting party provided its license plate, and the driver was located and cited.
An individual was warned about shooting a pellet gun in city limits, after a reporting party saw them doing so near River Road and thought the gun was a .22.
A tug boat almost hit another boat, but they did not collide, said a reporting party near Klindt’s Point. No other calls were received and the matter was logged for info.
One vandalism report from Second Street, regarding a restaurant customer smashing lottery machines.
Officers assisted with a house fire on Chenowith Loop, about a block from Chenowith Elementary School.
A person was cited for urinating in public on April 11.
An identity theft report was taken April 11.
Wasco County Sheriff, April 5 - 12
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Warrant (two).
Notable incidents
Two warrant arrests. In one incident, officers located and arrested an individual near W. Sixth for an outstanding warrant out of Wasco County. In the other, a person was arrested on a warrant after a fight with another party. In the same incident, deputies noted a dog bite on scene.
Six animal calls. Trespassing dog, dogs at large, barking dogs. In on incident, OSP requested potential owners for a hazardous deceased cow on Highway 218, near milepost 10. The owner was found.
One vehicle crash with injuries. Wamic and Wasco responded to a single-vehicle crash on Dodson Road. The driver was injured, but walking, and handled their own tow.
Oregon State Police, April 5 - 12
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Driving while suspended or revoked (one), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
One traffic arrest. In one incident, the driver of a silver Nissan Maxima was stopped for a registration violation, arrested for driving while suspended or revoked, and lodged at NORCOR. A dog was in the vehicle; it was lodged at Home At Last.
A trooper attempted to stop a motorcycle for an expired license on April 4. The motorcycle eluded OSP and was not pursued; its plate was switched and expired in 2018.
One non-injury vehicle crash. On April 8, the driver of a red Chevrolet pickup parked near Hood River and exited without putting the vehicle in park. The pickup rolled into a parked blue Acura, causing minor damage. A trooper assisted with information exchange and cited the pickup’s driver for no operator’s license and driving uninsured.
OSP received an INTERPOL request for familial DNA on a next of kin cold case out of British Columbia. A Detective was tasked with collecting a consent swab from a relative that lived in the Hood River area and the DNA was sent back to British Columbia for analysis.
