Notable incidents
Two non-injury, single-vehicle crashes were reported. In one incident, a vehicle rolled in White Salmon. The other incident, from Bingen, involved building damage.
A hit and run was reported in White Salmon. Investigation is ongoing.
A propane heater fire was reported from White Salmon, and handled by the fire department.
An ongoing fraud investigation was noted in White Salmon.
Two animal calls. Dog at large in Bingen, lost dog in White Salmon.
Hood River Police, Oct. 22 - 28
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Criminal mischief (one), disorderly conduct (two), DUII (two), eluding (one), endangering the welfare of a minor (two), failure to supervise a child (one), felon in possession of a weapon (one), harassment (one), providing false information (one), reckless driving (one), resisting arrest (one), theft (four), trespass (two), warrant (three).
Notable incidents
Four vehicle crashes, all non-injury. In one incident, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash in which one vehicle had to be towed from the scene due to extensive damage.
Four theft reports. Shoplifting at Walmart (two), vehicle, and a cellphone.
Two DUII arrests. In one incident, officers arrested a Washington driver on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance, reckless endangering the welfare of a minor, identity theft, providing false information to a police officer, and felon in possession of a weapon. The passenger, also from Washington, was arrested on charges of reckless endangering the welfare of a minor and an outstanding warrant.
Two disorderly conduct arrests.
Officers cited and released an individual for failure to supervise a child.
During a traffic stop, a vehicle was towed due to the driver not having valid driving privileges, and the vehicle being uninsured and parked in an unsafe location.
The Dalles Police, Oct. 27 - Nov. 3
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Criminal mischief (one), disorderly conduct (one), harassment (one), trespass (three), warrant (eight).
Notable incidents
One non-injury vehicle crash report. A white Honda backed into the rear bumper of another vehicle on Sixth Street, causing paint damage.
One stolen vehicle report. A white Ford truck was taken from W. Second Street on Oct. 27.
Five theft reports. Keys and title to car; phone; drills; vehicle; and cans of gasoline, taken along with an assortment of hand-tools and battery packs.
Two burglary reports. In one incident, a caller on Oct. 30 stated they returned home to Summit Ridge Road to discover a broken window and their dog “going crazy.” No intruders were located.
A resident of 10th Street stated they returned home to find a bedroom window broken, and it appeared someone attempted entry, but must’ve been spoked by a Rottweiler inside the home. In another incident, an e-bike was taken from Court Street.
About $3,123 was stolen from a business on Webber Street, by means of deceptive emails.
Eighteen mental health calls were logged.
Fourteen animal calls were logged. Dog attack, alleged animal neglect, dog surrendered and impounded, barking dog, road-killed kitten. In one incident, a dog owner was cited after their two animals attacked and injured another person’s dog.
A rifle was abandoned in a rented room on Cherry Heights. The rifle was picked up and will be stored for safekeeping.
A vehicle on W. Eight was egged in the small hours of Nov. 1.
Wasco County Sheriff, Oct. 27 - Nov. 3
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Warrant (three).
Notable incidents
Two vehicle crashes. In one incident, a vehicle versus deer crash was reported on Tygh Valley Road. The vehicle was towed. In another, a driver stated they were going around a corner on Emerson Loop and flipped their car onto a bank. There was a injury to one person’s finger. The vehicle was towed.
A small brush fire with black smoke was called in from River Trail Way / River Road. Starting at about eight feet by eight feet, a deputy noted the fire was not spreading very quickly. Deputies assisted Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue with establishing access.
Two theft reports. In one incident, a garden cart valued at $150 and a chainsaw valued at $400 were stolen from a Sevenmile address during the night. In another, a charcoal gray Chrysler was stolen from Rock Creek Campground on Oct. 31, and driven away on a full tank of gas. The reporting party still had the keys. On Nov. 2, the damaged Chrysler was found in the forest while on the OHV trails. The reporting party googled the license plate, found it was stolen, and called it in.
Eleven animal calls were logged. Dead deer, dogs at large, temporarily missing dog, alleged puppy mill. In one incident, a dog entered a yard on Pleasant Ridge and killed 11 chickens. The animal control officer lodged the dog at Home At Last.
Two deceased cattle with no ear tags were found near Road 4830. Heads, hide and hooves were all that remained. No shell casings were found.
A downed tree, blocking the northbound lane of Dry Hollow, was called in and handled by the road department.
Oregon State Police, Oct. 27 - Nov. 2
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Driving while suspended (one), DUII (one).
Notable incidents
Two injury crash reports. In an incident on Oct. 27, a silver Toyota Sienna crashed into the barrier on the hard right shoulder of I-84, near milepost 129 eastbound, after the driver over-corrected when they crossed the skip line. The driver, who reported they fell asleep prior to the crash, sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The passenger was not injured. The Toyota was towed. In another incident on Nov. 1, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-84, near milepost 73 westbound. The driver had hydroplaned, lost control of the vehicle, and suffered minor injuries when it rolled onto the shoulder. The driver was extracted, evaluated by medics on scene, and given a ride. The vehicle was towed.
Two non-injury crash reports. In one incident, troopers responded to a two-vehicle blocking crash near milepost 11 of 216. A flatbed truck served to avoid a deer and sideswiped a Ford F150, causing it to roll. The driver of the flatbed truck fled the scene before troopers and deputies arrived, and the occupants of the Ford were uninjured. In another incident, a vehicle hydroplaned on I-84 and rolled onto the shoulder.
A trooper responded to a reported crash on Oct. 27. When they arrived on scene, the suspect vehicle was abandoned on Highway 281 near milepost 2 southbound. It had left the roadway and severed a phone line pole at the ground. A witness described the vehicle the suspect left in, and troopers attempted to follow up but were unable to contact the suspect. Troopers will follow up the investigation.
A trooper arrived to investigate the cause of death of a wasted three-point buck near Highway 19 on Oct. 28. The reporting party had “hearsay” info that their neighbor had shot and lost the buck on Oct. 28. The rumor was, the shooter used a rifle “prohibited method” instead of a muzzle loader. The trooper cut into the buck and removed the internal organs, but was unable to find the bullet. The case was closed pending additional evidence or information.
