Injury crash — A 20-year-old Fossil resident’s car slid on icy Hwy 19 and lost control. Neither the driver nor the 20-year-old passenger, also of Fossil, were seriously injured when their vehicle slid across both lanes, traveled over some soft gravel, flipped, and rolled at least twice on its way down a 25-foot embankment, before landing — upside down — in a creek.
However, both were transported to a Prineville hospital for various minor bumps and bruises, and a towing company had to fetch the damaged 2020 Subaru out of the creek.
Detectives seek info on felony — Detectives are seeking information on a felony hit-and-run crash which injured two people on I-5 last week, according to Washington State Patrol (WSP).
On Dec. 20, just after 9 p.m., a 911 caller reported a collision on I-5, near I-90, to WSP communications.
Troopers arrived to find that a gold van had struck an attenuator at the beginning of the ramp to Exit I-90. The driver and passenger, both injured, were transported to Harborview Medical Center. The driver was placed in custody for vehicular assault, because of suspected impairment (intoxication) and the extent of the passenger’s injuries.
An impact attenuator is a structure designed to absorb the impact of crashes and thus reduce their severity, sometimes added to higher-risk points on a highway.
More investigation and reports found this gold van came into contact with an unknown white van before the collision with the attenuator. This white van would have damage to the passenger side, since the gold van has damage on the driver’s side consistent with such an impact.
Anyone who witnesses the crash or information is asked to email Detective Todd Early at Todd.Early@wsp.wa.gov.
