“Driving” suspended — Oct. 16, the driver of an electric scooter was criminally cited for “driving” suspended on I-84.
Hit-and-run — A car whacked a utility pole on Highway 30 on Oct. 13. The driver left on foot, and a police dog failed to find them. Highway 30 closed while Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) restored power. A towing company located an Oregon driver’s license in the vehicle and multiple agencies are investigating.
Illegal antlers — A citizen reported a business in The Dalles for selling antler and skull parts. The parts were seized and the owner warned for unlawfully possessing and selling them.
Stolen cars — A trooper found a stolen vehicle from Walla Walla near Herman Creek Road and arrested one of the two occupants on charges of unlawfully entering and using the vehicle. Wasco County and The Dalles reported one car theft each.
Escapes, briefly — Oct. 12, troopers helped The Dalles and Wasco County find two juvenile persons who escaped from NORCOR and chased them on foot. Oregon State Police (OSP) caught one, and The Dalles Police Department (TDPD) caught the other later that evening.
Non-injury crashes — Oct. 6, a vehicle and pedestrian crash resulted in injuries in Hood River.
Oct. 10, a chunk of metal allegedly flew off a Ford and hit the vehicle behind on I-84. A pickup hit ice on Highway 35, met an embankment head-on and rolled. Wasco County and The Dalles added five crashes and two DUII incidents.
Four injured in crashes — Four people were injured last week in crashes reported by Oregon State Police (OSP).
Troopers and Sherman County deputies responded to a commercial vehicle and passenger car collision on Highway 97. The car’s driver, who caused the crash with a wide left turn, and passenger were transported to a hospital.
Oct. 6, a vehicle and pedestrian crash resulted in injuries in Hood River.
On Oct. 10, OSP and Crook County deputies responded to a crash on US-26 near Prineville. An injured male was found in a driveway, and vehicle parts scattered along the road and shoulder. The male was life-flighted to a Portland hospital, where mushrooms were found and seized for destruction. The crash happened in the rain, after dark and with no witnesses. But after Crook County deputies made a Facebook post, the involved driver called 911 to report the crash, believing they had only struck a garbage can, which was found nearby.
Oct. 13, a vehicle rolled near Maupin after losing traction on a wet road, causing minor injuries as it rolled into a field. Driver cited for failing to report the resultant property damage.
Hunting and fishing — An angler was warned Oct. 10 for keeping a steelhead as a non-Zone 6 tribal member. The fish was donated. A hunter was warned Oct. 14 for harvesting a buck in the White River Unit on a Western Oregon tag he accidentally bought in error.
Charges — Last week, OSP charged people with driving suspended (two), DUII (one), unauthorized use of vehicle (one), unauthorized entry into vehicle (one), warrant (one). Oct. 5-11, Hood River police charged people with disorderly conduct (one), DUII (two), hit-and-run one1), reckless driving (one), reckless endangering (one), tampering with evidence (one), trespass (one), warrant (two). Wasco and The Dalles don’t log arrests but recorded seven warrant incidents.
Death — Wasco deputies reported a death on Elrod Avenue Oct. 12, another at Station 2 Oct. 16.
Suicide — Wasco County made three suicide-related logs, The Dalles one.
Drugs — The Dalles and Wasco County reported one drug incident, The Dalles four on E. Second, W. Eighth Place, W. Third, and unspecified locations.
Thefts — Wasco County reported a fraud allegation. The Dalles added seven thefts, including two on W. Sixth. Oct. 5-11, Hood River Police reported shoplifting from a hardware store, theft of social security number and fraud costing a resident $1,200.
Stats — Wasco and The Dalles made nine log of domestic violence and four of assault. Hood River, the week before, reported a child inappropriately touching anther child.
Robbery and burglary — In The Dalles, burglary was called in from W. 14th on Oct. 14, at about 10:05 a.m. Two burglary logs came from Court Street on Oct. 14, just after 11 a.m. and another on W. Eighth Street the next morning. The robbery was reported on W. Eighth at about 7:04 p.m. Oct. 13.
DUII injury — Hood River police reported two DUII arrests Oct. 5-11. In one, a Yakima resident was arrested on DUII - controlled substance charges and for tampering with physical evidence by presenting water as a urine sample. Oct. 7, a Seaside resident was arrested on charges of DUII - controlled substance, reckless endangering and reckless driving. Their 3-year-old inflant was life-flighted to a Portland hospital due to injuries from the vehicle’s collision into a tree.
