Charges — Aug. 10-16, Hood River police charged people with DUII (3), false info (1), harassment (1), theft (1), trespass (1), warrant (1). Last week, Oregon State police charged people with DUII (7), drug violations (1), eluding (2), fishing violations (1), reckless driving (2), warrant (1). Other agencies don’t log arrests, but The Dalles police logged 10 warrant-related incidents and Wasco County one.
Hood River thefts — Seven theft reports last week: Jewelry from residence, two shopliftings, e-bike from Best Western Plus bike rack, fraudulent use of credit card. And a person was stopped in Odell for a traffic violation, gave a false name and was cited and released for ID theft, false info and no driver’s license. Separately, a Hood River resident reported someone altered their personal check.
Crashes — Aug. 10-16, Hood River police reported three non-injury collisions. Last week, The Dalles logged five crashes.
FBI visits — Aug. 12, an officer helped a Portland FBI agent with an interview at a Hood River home. The resident was being scammed, and had reported this to the FBI tip line, initiating an FBI investigation.
Welfare — Officers made eight welfare checks in Hood River Aug. 10-16, two at the same location within 24 hours.
Stats — Five mental health calls came from The Dalles and Wasco County last week. The Dalles recorded seven logs of domestic violence, and four regarding suicide. Wasco County added three logs of domestic violence, two of assault, two regarding suicidal behavior.
Wasco thefts — The Dalles recorded 16 theft calls last week —Three came from W. Sixth, another four from Garrison Street. Wasco County logged another five thefts and two frauds. The Dalles also reported an alleged ID theft and a fraud.
Burglary — The Dalles reported two possible burglaries last week, from Honey Do and W. Sixth Street.
Missing — A missing person report from W. 10th, The Dalles, Aug. 21. And two missing person reports from Clear Creek Campground and Old Dufur Road.
Drugs — OSP found a person unconscious in the driver seat of a Toyota Corolla on US-197 in Tygh Valley. The driver was arrested for DUII and troopers found a “large quantity” of methamphetamine, heroin, packaging material and scales in the vehicle. The driver was charged with intent to transfer meth, and possession of usable and commercial quantities of meth and of heroin.
Wasco County Sheriff’s Office logged a single drug incident, on Fairgrounds Road, Aug. 17.
Two non-injury crashes — A commercial truck went down an embankment on US-97, after a bee landed on the driver’s hand. And a 47-year-old driver, annoyed with a 19-year-old driver in the left lane of I-84, passed on the right, clipped their vehicle, caused a crash, and earned a citation.
DUII — State police made seven DUII arrests last week, at least three of them in Tygh Valley or on Fairgrounds Road.
Burning ID — Burning garbage called in on the shoulder of I-84 near milepost 95 eastbound. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue put the fire out. Troopers found a bag filled with clothing, towels, a vape pen and a partially burned wallet with Idaho ID. Investigation is ongoing.
Prowlers — Four calls for prowlers in The Dalles last week.
Critters — The Dalles logged 20 dogs and just three other animals. Wasco County added six animals, three of them dogs.
Oh deer — Alerted to a poached deer, troopers found two carcases on Forest Road 4880, photographed them, and seized a piece of hide. Lead fragments were found in a deer’s head, too.
Three agencies, one car — Aug. 20, troopers stopped a Toyota Prius for an observed violation. The Prius fled and wasn’t pursued; later, county deputies chased it, and The Dalles police spiked the tires, stopping it. Troopers gave the driver a criminal citation for eluding, and county deputies arrested them.
Pursuit — After a driving complaint about a Chrysler on I-84, troopers tried to chase the vehicle, which fled. Troopers chased and boxed it in between a commercial truck and guardrail, did a high-risk stop, and arrested the driver for DUII, reckless driving and attempt to elude.
Rowena donations — On Aug. 19, The Dalles police officers, city council members, and the Lions Club gathered to package donations for those impacted by the Rowena Fire, and move them from the Wahtonka campus ahead of school.
Gun found — On Aug. 18, The Dalles police seized a handgun while “proactively checking a known illegal camp beneath a bridge in the city.”
