(The Center Square) – North Carolina is among 22 states alongside the Federal Trade Commission filing litigation against Amazon, a company the state and Richmond County have been happy to welcome with a $10 billion data center investment.

The independent federal consumer agency and the Old North State's first-term Democratic Attorney General Jeff Jackson say Amazon ran an illegal advertising pricing scheme overcharging more than 1.2 million advertising customers more than $20 billion since 2019. The scheme, plaintiffs say, said Amazon used “shill” bids hidden from public view to enable a higher charge to the winner of auctions.
