(The Center Square) - A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff Monday morning from Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California.

Eight people were aboard the aircraft, which was on a routine test mission, Edwards noted in a news release. Edwards did not cite a number on fatalities, but noted, "Initial indications are the craft was not survivable."
