Major changes are happening with Logsdon Farmhouse Ales, established in 2011, in its namesake building on Booth Hill Road south of Hood River.
The brewery will have a second space to call home this year, in Washougal, and founder Dave Logsdon is about to retire.
The company has signed a lease for an existing brewery space in downtown Washougal, the former Amnesia space. The second facility will allow for additional production capacity, as well as a taproom and restaurant to showcase Logsdon’s beers, the company announced in a press release Tuesday.
The brewery was founded by Logsdon, creator of award-winning beers Seizoen, Seizoen Bretta, Peche ‘n Brett, Cerasus, and Oak Aged Bretta, and then-head brewer Charles Porter, now owner of Little Beast Brewery in Beaverton. Shortly after its founding, David’s wife Judith, long-time friend Seaberg Einarsson, cousin John Plutshack and John’s wife, Jodie Ayura, became partners in Logsdon Farmhouse Ales. For the past year, Plutshack and Ayura have managed brewery operations and this year will have purchased the majority stake in the brewery along with John's parents, John Senior and his mother, Barb.
Logsdon will stay on as a minority shareholder and retire as brewmaster. He said, "It is nice to see that the brewery will remain in the family and continue the tradition of brewing award-winning beers." David is a pioneer of the beer industry, with 35 years’ experience from co-founding Wyeast Laboratories, brewing at Full Sail Brewing Company, consulting at countless breweries, and judging beer competitions worldwide.
Judith, and Seaberg Einarsson, both partners in the company and actively involved in the growth and creation of the brewery, will exit the company this year.
Rounding out Logsdon’s team are Head Brewer Shilpi Halemane and Assistant Brewer Mark Pearson.
