Members of the immigrant community gathered Feb. 3 outside Mercado Guadalajara to participate in the national protest movement, “A Day Without Immigrants.” The market itself was closed to show support. “We are essential, we are strong, we are community,” read a flyer outside the building. “No work, no shopping, no school.”

Local event organizer and Hood River Latino Network President Martha Verduzco-Ortega, addressed the crowd, saying, "Trump wants to crown himself king and divide our country in the process. But this land belongs to all of us, including immigrants. Hispanic people are a vital part of this wonderful community."
