If you read the Glenwood news very often, you know how much I enjoy sharing news for our current and former Glenwood School students. This time I’m pleased to share the news that Isabella Bensel, a 2024 Glenwood High School graduate and daughter of Sarah and Jason Bensel, achieved the distinction of qualifying for the President’s List at Walla Walla Community College for the spring quarter. According to WWCC, to qualify for the President’s List a student must earn a 4.0 GPA while taking at least 12 semester hours during the term. We are so proud of you over here in your home town, Bella.
Bella’s brother Gavin, a 2025 Glenwood graduate, is settled in to his new apartment in Gillette, Wyoming and has started classes at Western Welding Academy. The six-month program in which Gavin is enrolled will give him the certification to do commercial industrial work wherever he chooses in the future. We wish you well down there, Gavin.
Another 2024 Glenwood High School graduate and student at Walla Walla Community College, Joslyn Arnold, competed in breakaway roping at the Crooked River Roundup in Prineville, Oregon June 28 and did very well competing against other professional ropers. Joslyn took second place with an incredibly fast time of 2.6. Way to go, cowgirl. Joslyn is a member of the Walla Walla CC rodeo team and will compete in several NPRA rodeos over the summer, before her college rodeo competition begins again in the fall.
A large number of family and friends gathered at the rodeo dance hall on Saturday, June 28th to celebrate the life of Karen Bloom, a beloved Glenwood resident for many years. Her family placed photo albums of Karen’s life on all the tables for attendees to enjoy. She led quite a full life and it was wonderful for many of her local friends to meet members of her extended family. Many gathered at the cemetery later where Karen’s ashes were placed beside her husband Derwin. She is greatly missed here in the community she called home.
Later that afternoon, family and friends gathered in the beautiful yard of Dale and Jensi Smith to celebrate Anita Wellenbrock on the occasion of her 80th birthday. It was a fun and lively celebration, with wading pools for the kids, trees draped with colorful flower leis, and an amazing spread of delicious food. Happy birthday, Anita, and many more.
