Our valley is filled with hunters out hoping to put meat in their freezers this fall. The weather has been pretty cooperative, clear and cool. The fall colors coming into the valley are beautiful and the mountain has a bit of fresh snow.
The Halloween decorations at the Glenwood General Store and Glenwood Station are awesome this year. Here’s another reminder of the Glenwood community Trunk or Treat on Halloween night from 4-7 p.m. Roads will be closed for the core downtown area to make it safe for the children. The Glenwood Station will be judging and awarding prizes for best costumes, so be sure to stop in there. Glenwood General Store will be serving hot chili and clam chowder and the Glenwood Women’s Club will be set up on the store porch with treats and a bucket for ballots for best trunk. Prizes will be awarded for the top three vote-getters. It’s going to be a really fun night for Glenwood families.

The high school and middle school athletes have been busy with volleyball, cross country, soccer and football. Our two Glenwood High School seniors, Gavin Bensel and Shae Jackson, are awesome players on the Lyle football team and had their senior night on Friday, Oct. 25. They played Pilot Rock that night. Their final game will take place Nov. 1 in Moro against Sherman County. Good luck in that final game, Gavin, Shae and all the Cougars.
Our high school Eagles cross-country team competed in the Goldendale 5K on Oct. 17. Christian Tomei again led the Eagles pack with his brother Tomei and teammate Blaine Arnold right behind. Anthony Avila didn’t compete in that race so he could attend his sister Jayla’s senior night for volleyball. The next day they competed in the Footrace to Valhalla in Umatilla, a 5K. Again, Christian led the Eagles team with Anthony behind him by only seconds, and Tomei and Blaine very closely behind. That ended their season. Way to go, Eagles.
Both our high school and middle school girls lost tough volleyball matches last week, but played well despite the losses. Little Klickwood’s (middle school) eighth graders, Brooklyn, McKayla and Kiki, were honored before their home game with Trout Lake last Tuesday. The Little Klickwood team traveled to Bickleton on Oct. 21 for their final regular-season game, and competed in their tournament in Klickitat on Oct. 23.
The high school Klickwood girls had double headers in Moro last Saturday against both Sherman County and Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler. I don’t have results of those games. At their home game against Dufur last Thursday, seniors Jayla Avila and Brenna Beeks were honored and distributed flowers to teammates, coaches, family, and friends as their beautiful essays of their memories and experiences of playing Klickwood volleyball were read. They have a few more games on their schedule.
I would like to finish by letting all the volunteers for the home volleyball games know how much they are appreciated. Robin Campbell, Toni Troh and Sara McFall have always been willing scorebook keepers and clock tenders. Many others have volunteered as line judges, but most frequent out there at the lines were Anthony Avila and Blaine Arnold. Those games come after an afternoon of cross-country practice for the guys and longs days of work at school for the ladies, but they just step up as needed. Thanks to all of you for all you do for our school and our athletes.
