HOOD RIVER — Hood River County School District’s (HRCSD) Financial Advisory Committee met earlier this month to review the district’s financial status, Superintendent Bill Newton reported at the Oct. 22 school board meeting.
The review confirmed “a stable financial position for the current year (Fiscal Year 2025-2026), and the close of the previous year (FY 2024-2025), which included maintaining an Operating Reserve of more than $2 million,” he said.
However, the district is planning for future financial challenges from state revenue shortfalls and federal funding cuts. HRCSD also anticipates approximately $3 million in additional PERS costs beginning with the 2027-2028 school year. Other challenges, Newton said, include rising special education costs, facility maintenance, and recruiting and retaining key district positions.
“The school district remains focused on long-term financial planning and encourages the community to participate in committee monthly meetings, which are live-streamed and recorded, for a detailed view of the school district’s ongoing financial outlook,” he said.
