BINGEN — City councilors heard an update on the e-bike lending library the city shares with White Salmon on Oct. 20.
Abby Brandt Whalin from Washington Gorge Action Programs said the Gorge Rides E-bike Lending Library, sponsored through a partnership with Washington State’s Department of Transportation and Forth Mobility, has provided 30 e-bikes available for checkout at three community hubs: Daubenspeck Park, Skyline Hospital, and Whitson Elementary School.
Bikes can be checked out for up to a month at a time. Since July, e-bikes have been borrowed more than 120 times, with 4,670 miles mapped. The bikes are repaired and maintained regularly by local partner Justin Black of Doctor Roscoe’s Holistic Bicycle Repair. They come with accessories, including helmets, child seats, and locks.
The program provides instruction for all levels of riders, including folks who have never ridden a bike, through one-on-one coaching. The program’s operator, Taylor Marean, also coordinates group rides, with a fall group ride slated for Nov. 7.
