CASCADE LOCKS — The Cascade Locks City Council met in chambers on May 13 for its only meeting this month.Â
A plan to approve the Community Picnic Expense was tabled until after the approval of the 2024-25 budget. The scheduled appropriation was $1,500. The picnic is typically held at the end of the summer. The Charter Review committee reported, asking for a minor extension for their tasks to be completed. Council approved.
Council next discussed the surplus ambulance requiring disposal. The plan to sell it to CGCC has been abandoned, since CGCC no longer has a paramedic program. Staff was directed to research other interested buyers.
Cascade Locks City Administrator Jordon BennettÂ
City Administrator Jordon Bennett brought the council up to date on the Downtown Revitalization Project Advisory Committee. A number of citizens have applied for the committee, but the city is still looking for a few more to fill in the group, particularly business owners. The goal is 12 members total, with nine business owners and three community members. Currently, applications reflect four business owners, three community members, and downtown resident and council liaison, Denise Emmerling-Baker. Additional business owners are encouraged to apply.
Bennett next reported that engineers and general contractor Anderson Perry and JW Fowler want to close out their contract for the Cascade Locks wastewater plant improvements. Bennett objected to closing out the contract since there still appear to be concerns with key components of the plant. The council agreed that Bennett should follow up on all concerns before finalizing the contract.
Council was told to expect a renewal of EMS services for Cascade Locks to be on the next agenda. City Administrator Bennett and Fire Chief John Logan will propose the renewal at the June meeting.
Finally, local citizen JoAnn Wittenberg, a longtime member of the Cascade Locks Museum Board, was lauded for receiving an Oregon Heritage Excellence Award for her volunteer work.
The Cascade Locks City Council will not have their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, May 27, due to the Memorial Day holiday. The next meeting is June 10 at 7 p.m.
