THE DALLES — On Sunday, Feb. 16, Bethany Lutheran Church in The Dalles will be celebrating 40 years of proclaiming God’s mercy in Jesus Christ. The occasion will be observed at the weekly Church Service at 11 a.m., followed by a meal at 12:30 p.m.
Bethany’s history dates back to 1985 when a small group of Christians formed a church faithful to God’s Word (the Bible) and the confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Their first worship service was held on Feb. 17 of that year at the Kooper Kitchen restaurant (now Cousins) in The Dalles. In May 1985, services were moved to St. Peter’s Landmark, where the church worshiped for a decade, until the dedication of the current building on Oct. 22, 1995.
Rev. Frank Fiedler III was installed as Bethany’s first full-time pastor in July 1985. Rev. Rob Lawson Jr. has served the church since August 2019. The intervening years have witnessed many changes. Pastors have changed. Some members have changed. There have been changes in society. What has not changed is Bethany’s commitment to being a Biblical church that confesses Christ’s name and glory, sharing the Gospel truth of His love and grace with The Dalles and the surrounding community.
Bethany is located at 2323 E. 12th St. All are invited to attend.
