Unforgotten Season 7 has officially started filming. ITV and PBS announced the start of production on Monday, January 26. The announcement came with the reveal of the new cast that includes stars from Peaky Blinders, Adolescence, Grantchester, Bridgerton, Coronation Street, All Creatures Great and Small, and more. Additionally, the Season 7 cold case has been revealed. Following the riveting Unforgotten Season 6 finale on September 28, here’s everything there is to know about the upcoming season.
Is Unforgotten Season 7 filming?
Filming on Unforgotten Season 7 is underway as of January 26, 2026. ITV and PBS announced the start of filming with a photo of stars Sanjeev Bhaskar (DCI Sunny Khan) and Sinéad Keenan (DCI Jess James) at the Season 7 readthrough (pictured above).
Who is in the Unforgotten Season 7 cast?
It’s a stacked cast list of exciting stars coming to Season 7.
Bhaksar and Keenan return to lead the new season, reprising their acclaimed on-screen partnership as Detective Sunny Khan and Detective Jessica James, who will once again investigate a complex and emotionally charged cold case.

Jess and Sunny’s loyal police team also reassemble, featuring Jordan Long as DS Murray Boulting, Carolina Main as DS Fran Lingley, and Pippa Nixon as DC Kaz Willets. Georgia Mackenzie also returns as Pathologist Dr Leanne Balcombe. Other returning cast members include Andrew Lancel as Jess’s ex-husband, Steve, and Kate Robbins as her mother, Kate.
What’s the cold case in Unforgotten Season 7?
Directed by Andy Wilson, who has overseen all six previous seasons, the drama opens with the chilling discovery of human remains in the crawl space of a house in Ladbroke Grove, London. Early forensic analysis suggests the body is that of a child and has been deliberately concealed for several years. The investigation takes a deeply personal turn for the team when a DNA match links the victim to a previously closed historic case, compelling DCI Sunny Khan and DCI Jess James to revisit the original inquiry and unravel the truth behind a decades-old crime.
The investigation into the young victim’s life leads the team to a new cast of characters whose present-day lives conceal dark secrets, including a troubled social worker, Mary Brock (Rundle), a respected inmate, Lacee Cook (Curtis), a struggling addict, Hugh Swafham (Rhind-Tutt), and a tenacious journalist, Ruby Allenford (Simpson).
Produced by Deborah Morgan, who served as line producer for Seasons 5 and 6, the new season will showcase a diverse range of locations across the U.K., setting the scene for the new investigation. These include the central London location of Ladbroke Grove, the coastal setting of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and locations in Coventry and Halifax, as well as Reading Prison.
When does Unforgotten Season 7 come out?
A premiere date will be announced at a later time, but Season 7 could possibly come out in 2026, perhaps in late summer or early fall. There have been two-year gaps between most of the season premieres, however.
How did Unforgotten Season 6 end?
Creator, executive producer, and writer Chris Lang broke form in the Season 6 finale with the killer reveal. Gerry’s murderer wasn’t any of the four suspects; it was his own daughter, Taylor (Pixie Davies), but she didn’t know it. Taylor protected her mother, Juliet (Victoria Hamilton), from Gerry during a violent moment when she was 11 years old. She grabbed a knife from the kitchen table and stabbed her father in the leg to save her mother.
Gerry bled to death after her Juliet took Taylor upstairs. It was Juliet who dismembered her husband and disposed of him in the marsh, but she didn’t kill him herself. Everything she did about Gerry’s death after the fact, she did to protect her daughter. Sunny and Jess learned that prosecutors opted not to charge either of them.
