Fans anxious to continue the raunchy and rowdy adventures of Ted, the tawdry talking teddy bear created by Seth MacFarlane in the original Ted films, are in luck as the foul-mouthed fuzzball is gearing up for another round of outrageous antics. But this time, in toon form.
After the success of the prequel series Ted, which revisited the stuffed animal who came to life during his heyday in the ’90s when he and his “Thunder Buddy,” John (played in the films by Mark Wahlberg and in the show by Max Burkholder), were in their teens, Peacock is now rearing up for Ted: The Animated Series, which will continue the duo’s adventures from the film franchise. As the series picks up with the films left off, Stars Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Jessica Barth return to voice their original roles.
So, when will the ink-and-paper version of Ted make his debut? And what will his adventures include? Here is everything we know so far about Ted: The Animated Series.
When will Ted: The Animated Series premiere?
Ted: The Animated Series was officially ordered by Peacock in May 2025. However, because MacFarlane subsequently directed his focus to the highly-rated second season of the live-action Ted prequel series, which premiered in March 2026, an official premiere date for the animated series has not yet been announced. But check back here for updates.
What will Ted: The Animated Series be about?
Taking place 12 years after the second film, the animated series will follow Ted and John as they head into midlife with their wives, Tami-Lynn and Sam, and their families. Still stoners and still Thunder Buddies for life, the duo deal with life in the suburbs and getting older, as well as the trials and tribulations of fatherhood and being a husband.
The official logline from Peacock reads: ” This series reunites MacFarlane, who reprises his role as the voice of Ted, with his big screen castmates: Mark Wahlberg, as the voice of Ted’s best friend, John; Amanda Seyfried, as the voice of John’s wife, Sam; and Jessica Barth as Ted’s wife, Tami-Lynn. Picking up twelve years after the conclusion of the last movie, John and his thunder-buddy Ted are neighbors, both with families of their own and dead-end jobs. Follow these two lovable stoners as they enable each other’s bad ideas about marriage, parenting, and the challenges of adult life.”
What was the original Ted about?
The film followed a little boy who made a special wish on a star for his teddy bear to come to life. And then it did. And then his family was stuck with it. As they grew up together, the foul-mouthed, hard-partying teddy bear became less of a magical childhood companion and more of a chaotic permanent fixture in their lives, blurring the line between imaginary friend and dysfunctional family member.
Ted is a prequel series to Seth MacFarlane’s film franchise, set in the early ’90s and centered on the profane teddy bear living with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Burkholder), in a blue-collar Boston home, chronicling their misadventures before the events of the films. Together, they navigate teenage life through a haze of questionable decisions, from experimenting with marijuana and pulling Halloween pranks to dodging bullies and falling for the local drug dealer, Sheila.
Season 2 raises the stakes, with mom Susan taking the fall for John after he’s caught with drugs and going to jail, John discovering 1-900 phone sex lines, and having the young teen develop an unexpected addiction to rom-coms.
