Firehouse 51 is joined by a familiar face in the Chicago Fire Season 14 finale, but will the episode also be saying goodbye to someone? The preview that aired on May 6 certainly has us worried. But hey, at least welcome back, Pascal (Dermot Mulroney)!
The description for the May 13 finale, titled “Thank You,” teases: “Severide [Taylor Kinney] and Kidd [Miranda Rae Mayo] welcome a surprise visitor. Herrmann [David Eigenberg] and Cindy [Robyn Coffin] renew their vows. Mouch [Christian Stolte] receives some encouraging news.”
The finale promo, which you can watch above, begins with Severide telling Kidd, “This job, it’s my home.” But at the end of the penultimate episode, while Severide was looking to the future as captain since he and Hopkins (Rob Morgan) cleared up their conflict and the IA review was dropped, Van Meter (Tim Hopper) strongly suggested he consider an alternative.
“I know this is a complicated subject, for reasons that go way back, which is why I’ve never pushed you on it. … Hargrave’s idea for you to take over OFI, that wasn’t just about your internal review. She’s leaving. That office is yours, if you want it. If you’d asked me a few years ago, I might have felt differently. I’ve always known that you were meant to be at OFI — it’s in your blood, that much is obvious — but it’s more than that,” Van Meter explained. “The last couple years, the leader you’ve become, the leadership you’ve shown through this Hopkins thing, the way I’ve seen you fight, not just for yourself, for your whole firehouse, that’s just the kind of leadership OFI needs right now. I really hope you’ll consider it.” The episode ended without Severide’s answer.
The finale video also promises the episode “will leave you breathless” and shows 51 on a call. But it’s very reminiscent of the end of the Season 2 finale, if you ask us, with a Mayday call and Pascal outside with paramedics Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and Novak (Jocelyn Hudon). That early season event, in which the entire firehouse went into a building before a collapse, led to Shay’s (Lauren German) death. Is 51 going to lose someone else?!
