TD wrestlers open season at Rainier

The Riverhawks, led by first-year Coach Jake Abrams, performed well in their debut this season. Riverhawk grapplers Maise Bandel-Ramirez and Alexander De’latorre each won their weight classes and three other wrestlers notched top-four efforts. Merik Peacock, who weighs 198, took fourth place in 220-pound division and sophomore Julian Moorehouse took third at 170 and senior Aiden Marx took fourth at 195.

“We did really good and I’m very proud of everyone,” said Abrams. “We had so few wrestlers because four of our lightweights were either sick or still haven’t been certified. This was a really long tournament, and I was really excited to see how hard our wrestlers fought. Alexander pinned everyone he wrestled in around one minute and so did Maise.”

Bandel-Ramirez won the girls 130-pound bracket in the Kelly Bledsoe girls meet. De’latorre took first place in the 160-pound bracket. De’latorre is a freshman, and he was competing in his first-ever high school meet. The Dalles had five boys and one girl compete in the meet.

The Dalles boys took 10th place out of 20 teams. The team competed in its second meet Tuesday at Newport (result after the print edition deadline). The Riverhawks will compete Dec. 10 at Lincoln High School in Portland.
