HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s (HRV’s) track and field team had six individual placers, and the same number of personal bests May 30-31 at the 2025 Class 5A state meet in Eugene.
HRV Coach Kyle Turner’s team competed at historic Hayward Field concurrently with athletes from Oregon’s 4A and 6A schools.
Eagle freshman Savina Davis led the way with her third-place effort in the girls 800 meters final May 31 in 2 minutes, 17.26 seconds. Davis had lowered her personal best in the event by clocking 2:16.13 (No. 2 all-time, HRV) in the preliminaries on the first day of the meet.
Also that day, teammate Syl Perrin ran a lifetime best of 10:14.51 to place eighth in a stellar 3000-meter field. Davis and Perrin, a junior, ran together on May 31, placing ninth and 10th in the 1500 meter final (each in lifetime bests, 4:42.58 and 4:46.46, respectively). Those times are No. 2 and No. 5 on the HRV all-time list; Perrin’s 3000 clocking is No. 3 all-time.
Senior Sylvaine Farr cleared a lifetime best of 10-7.5 (3.24 meters) to place fifth in the pole vault for HRV. Farr finished her HRV career ranked No. 6 all-time in the vault.
Davis, junior Sadie Baumann, freshman Georginia Williams, and junior Hazel Haspela ran the 4x400 relay. Their time of 4:10.10 is No. 10 in school history. The Eagle 4x100 relay also qualified for state, finishing in 51.69 seconds (17th). Team members were sophomore Keira Brennan, freshman Camila Luna, senior Alex Bronson, and Williams.
Hood River was 19th with 11 team points in the girls competition.
There also were three HRV state meet placers on the boys side: senior Logan King, junior Jack Miller and junior Francisco Solberg. King set the school record and placed eighth in the 3000 in 8:35.69. He finished a spot behind senior teammate Kai Wagner (12th) in the 1500 on the meet’s second day in a fitting, photo finish — both were timed in 4:04.56. Solberg placed eighth in the pole vault at 13-0.75 (3.98 meters). Miller was sixth in the javelin at 163-5 (49.81 meters).
King and Wagner exit HRV as two of the most prolific distance runners in school history. King is No. 1 all-time in the 1500 and 3000, and No. 4 in the 800. Wagner is No. 2 in the 3000, No. 3 in the 1500, and No. 7 in the 800.
Caldera of Bend won both the 5A boys and girls team titles.
