Two Portland artists are featured in a local show that opened July 9 in The Dalles. The installation at the former Morin Printing building joins 24 other venues around the state celebrating the unique landscapes and culture of Oregon.
The historic building at 308 Washington St. was once part of a complex that housed the Vogt Opera House, a local center for the arts from the 1880s through the early 1900s. This summer, the building hosts works from artists Tannaz Farsi and Midori Hirose.
The show, Portland2016 Biennial of Contemporary Art, runs through Sept. 18. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Volunteers from The Dalles Art Center will serve as docents during gallery hours.
An artists’ reception happened and a special event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3 from 3 to 5 p.m.
The Portland2016 Biennial of Contemporary Art is a major survey of Oregon visual artists who are defining and advancing the state’s contemporary arts landscape. Disjecta Contemporary Art Center invited Michelle Grabner, a nationally recognized curator who served as co-curator of the 2014 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art, to lead the Portland 2016 Biennial.
