Here are league bowling highlights from last week’s action at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes:
Monday evening Industrial league:
The Rollers (Jesse Orr, Paul Dethman, and Kevin Harris) are hot! They clinched first place in round three of the league one week early! The Rollers also won round two, which means they will likely get the No. 1 seed in the Industrial league’s unique bracket tournament, that will be conducted in the following weeks to ultimately decide the league champion. This is the only league with such a format and it’s actually a good thing, because it gives more teams a chance to win the league — instead of the usual roll-offs that include only round winners.
As is normally done in bracket tournaments, the higher seeds bowl against the lower seeds, which is supposed to be an advantage. Nevertheless, history tells that any team in the tournament can get hot and win it all. It happens often. It’s always exciting and fun to see who survives.
Leading the Industrial league in scoring last week was Clear Cutter’s Rod Pratt, who fired a big 712 series that included classy 245 and 236 games. It’s interesting to note that even with Rod’s big night on the lanes his team got spanked by The Rollers 16-9. Rod was 115 pins over his average but Sandy Harris, who anchored The Rollers in a substitute role, beat that as she was 123 pins over her average. Jesse Orr also contributed bigly in the match for The Rollers as he notched a super 248 game.
Albert Frelix also found the lanes to his liking last week, leading his Randy’s Painting trio to a big 22-3 point win over Hood River Supply. Albert put the polish on this trouncing with a 638 series capped by a nice 238 game. Chris Huff and sponsor Randy Nieto chipped in 211 and 212 games respectively for the painters in their big win. Aaron Troxel did his best for Supply as his thumbless slants made the pins dance with a 236 game, but it wasn’t nearly enough to combat the mighty Rollers.
John Mayfield starred for Pat’s Pro Shop in their 22-3 point smoking of the Mt. Hood BBQ squad. John’s speedy sphere crunched the sticks to the tune of a sturdy 212 game.
Three Fingers Deep also dismantled The Crew in a 22-3 point win. Key for the Fingers gang was Jaymes Youtsey, who shot a 620 set that included 225 and 215 games, while his teammates Ryan Pratt and Jay Slack joined in on the thrashing with 209 and 228 games respectively.
Nancy Asai rolled a 210 game to lead Orchard Lanes to an 18-7 point win over MTS. MTS’ Mac Proffitt countered with a 211 game in the match, but it wasn’t enough.
Wednesday afternoon senior Colts & Fillies league:
With just one week to go in the second half of the league, Skamaniacs are still in first place with 36 points. But things got closer last week. Cousins are in second with 34 points. 2 Pair is in third with 33 points and Awesome 3 is in fourth with 32 points. Any of these four teams could easily win the second half of the league.
Starring in individual action for the seniors was Gutter Gals main man Rod Pratt who notched the high series in the league with a 620 that was capped by a huge 276 game. His efforts led the “Gals” to a 3-1 win over Skamaniacs.
Matt Phillips also had a good outing for the Rolling Pins as he stroked a fine 203 game, but it was to no avail as 2 Pair swept the Pins 4 to 0 in their match.
Wednesday evening Fraternal league:
With just a couple weeks to go in the third round of the league Bloom Auto Body is still in first place with 131 points but they lost ground last week. Mt. Hood BBQ is in second with 125.5 points and then Hood River Athletic Club follows with 118.5 points. The Red Rockets are in fourth place with 113.5 points. Electronics Assemblers are in fifth place with 108.5 points. Any of these teams could win the third round with big finishes.
Here is a summary of the big scores in the Fraternal league last week:
The Bowling Stones’ Chad Mason was the big shooter in the league last week as his hard charging down and in special tore into the sticks for a 247 game and 682 series. Those numbers seem imposing don’t they, however they didn’t impress their opponents last week as two hander Owen Clemett rocked a 245 game for his Ten in the Pit trio as they knocked off The Bowling Stones 17-8.
Josh Worth starred for Hood River Athletic Club in their match between Orchard Lanes. Josh powered a mighty 246 game and 665 series to swamp the Lanes gang 22-3.
Rob Miller was big for his Get Hu’sum BBQ team as he tossed a cool 259 game but, once again, it wasn’t enough as their opponents, Tres Piscos ended up winning 22-3.
Legendary Washington orchardist John Riggleman posted an excellent 238 game for his Mt. Hood BBQ team and Jeremy Bloom did the same for his Bloom Auto Body crew.
Let’s go bowling everyone!
