Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Michael Ray Smith, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on June 24, 2026, at the age of 78. He leaves behind a lasting legacy as a loving father, grandfather and soon to be great grandfather.
Family and friends knew Mike as an honorable and dependable man, always ready to offer a helping hand, a story, words of wisdom, or a source of comfort. His kindness, integrity, and generosity touched many lives.

After his short stint in the Army, Mike went to college at Southwest Texas State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Hospital Professions (December 1978). Mike had a career in respiratory care at several hospitals, all while being the Boy Scout Leader of San Antonio Pack 911, where Chris and Scott spent much of their time, attending campouts and Pinewood Derby car building and racing.
Mike is survived by his sons, Christopher Smith and his wife Christine Smith, and Scott Smith and his wife Kaitlin Smith. He is also survived by two grandchildren, two twin great-grandbabies on the way, and many cherished lifelong and newly made friends whose lives were enriched by his friendship and example.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Water W. Smith (1994) and Nellie Smith (1991), his brother Richard Smith (2012), and his sister Patricia Richardson (2018).
