The Board of Directors of the Mt. Hood Town Hall is looking for someone who is interested in keeping a piece of history in exchange for a donation.
With the recent renovation to the playground at the Town Hall, old playground equipment that posed more of a danger to children being injured, as well as a liability to the Town Hall, was changed to more modern, safe structures.
Still, the old Merry-Go-Round has been a part of history for so many years there it was decided it would stay in place, with the condition that it stay chained down so that it did not spin for safety reasons.
“I remember the Merry-Go-Round was there in 1948-49 when I was in 4th grade at Mt. Hood School,” said lifetime valley resident Jane McLean, whose grandmother attended the school in 1914, the first year it was open.
However, efforts to keep the old playground equipment stationary have been unsuccessful.
“Unfortunately, the chain was broken several times in order to make it spin, which means it cannot stay,” said Nikki Stansel, manager of the Town Hall. “We know this is a fun and timeless piece of play equipment and we don’t want to see it go to waste, so we’re hoping someone would like to help keep history alive in their own yard or playground!”
If you are interested in giving the Merry-Go-Round a new home, contact Nikki Stansel at 541-645-0341.

Parkdale Elementary School is planning their first of several Scrabble Night fundraisers on Thursday, October 16, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the school library.
The cost is $2 per game to play and all are welcome!
This year the school plans to start up teams of third through fifth-graders to enter Oregon’s Battle of the Books program.
O.B.O.B. is a reading competition program with teams from many schools around the state of Oregon.
It’s also a great incentive for students to read books so they can answer questions about them, their teams can win, and they can move forward in the competition.
The money raised at the Scrabble Night fundraiser will go towards sponsorship of the Parkdale Elementary team to purchase books and other expenses.
