It seems like yesterday I was celebrating birthday number 40, but to me time feels like it’s speeding by at a faster rate. I mean, it seemed like I just blinked my eyes and the last season of Downton Abbey was already wrapping up. What was that, anyway, a total of six weeks?
I wouldn’t call this a “mid-life crisis” activity, but I recently took the time to scan all of my old photos (they came from material called “film negatives”) into my computer. For the most part, I did a pretty good job of labeling photos by year and event. But some stuff was unlabeled — a mystery as to when they were taken. I’m sure when I start distributing them to the friends and family they’ll remind me of the exact dates, and then the memories will become clearer.
If nothing else, the process of looking back over my treasured photos reminded me of two things.
Between 1977 and 1982, I had a terrible insta-matic type camera. Most shots were either over-exposed, underexposed, and people’s bodies not even in the frame. But, who could tell back then, until you got the film developed?
I’m delighted to say that I can document music in my life from 1981 or so. In one picture, I can almost tell it’s me, playing guitar with my friends.
