This story should have much appeal to youths and men who have found the lure of angling so strong that they did not notice the approach of darkness until it caught for far from base on a fishing stream.
About 6 p.m. last Sunday, Richard Bridges, 16 of 3023 SE Knapp street Portland and his brother Bob, 13, were taken b
y their parents up Herman creek to fish. The parents returned to the Columbia river highway and waited on the bridge for the boys to return.
Around 10 p.m., when it was already dark, and the two young anglers had failed to return, the parents proceeded to the Columbia Gorge Ranger station to call for help.
It was not until about 1:30 a.m. Monday morning that the two boys were located along the creek bed within one mile of the highway. It appeared that darkness had over-taken them and they adopted the wise course of camping alongside the creek to await dawn.
The two boys returned to Portland with their parents, none the worse for their adventure — and gainers by experience.
