Last week’s image showed the Vogt building, located 322 E. Second and Federal streets in The Dalles. Businesses included Maier & Krier Men’s Wear, Pioneer Electric, Davies Rexall Drugs, Karls’ Shoes, Monahan’s Jewelers, Spudnuts Bakery, Sears, and A.W. Williams Department Store. S&H Green stamps store was upstairs in the Williams building, said Columbia Gorge Discovery Center registrar Susan Buce, who contributed this photo taken by Gladys Seufert.

Local expert Gary Conley remembered a big dance hall upstairs.
