‘Sioux City Kid’ plays Sept. 21
Outlaw Americana outfit Sioux City Kid, will be headlining the Trillium Cafe in Hood River on Saturday, Sept. 21. The S.F. Bay-area band is fronted by Jared Griffin and his inimitable gravel-lined baritone. Sioux City Kid will release their first full-length record, “Minutes, Miles, Troubles & Trials,” this month. The album was recorded at San Francisco’s legendary Coast Recorders studio, previously host to Dave Brubeck, John Coltrane and the band that would become Creedence Clearwater Revival. ‘Good Luckers’ play Sept. 13
The Good Luckers are playing a variety of rock and country tunes at the Sandbar Cafe on the Hood River waterfront on Friday, Sept. 13. Music begins at 5:30 p.m. and continues until dusk. The band features Dale Whitaker on drums, Jodie Moreau on guitar, John Durkan on guitar and ukulele and Ron Smith on bass.

Breast Health benefit Sept. 14
Sunshine Mill in The Dalles hosts a benefit community concert for the Mid-Columbia Health Foundation on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 8:30 p.m. The show is a benefit for the Breast Health for Strong Families program, which provides free mammograms and breast health education. Full Sail hosts ‘American Craft Beer Cookbook’ signing

Songwriters team up Sept. 13
Jim MacMillan, Mark Daly and Alonzo Garbanzo team up for a house concert on Friday, Sept. 13, at 401 Montello, Hood River. It’s an evening of original songs from three local musicians with different styles and approaches to music. Music starts at 7 p.m. All-ages show. $15 donation at the door.
‘Wild & Scenic’ films Sept. 20-21
Two nights of thought-provoking films are presented by the Wild & Scenic Film Festival — this year the theme is “A Climate of Change,” as the films will explore everything from kayaking big waterfalls to changes that are affecting oyster production on Washington’s coast. ‘OFM’ band workshop Sept. 19
Portland rock band One From Many will be offering a free community workshop Thursday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. at the Columbia Center for the Arts. The workshop is geared toward kids who would like to talk to the band about music, what it’s like to play in a touring/recording band, and the many opportunities in music that can lead to a potential career in the business. 6th annual Vintage Evening Big Band Blitz fundraiser for Discovery Center Oct. 5
The Dalles, Oregon — Columbia Gorge Discovery Center hosts the 6th annual Vintage Evening auction fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 5. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner starts 6 p.m.
This year’s theme is a 1940s Big Band Blitz featuring the Minidoka Swing Band, a 17-piece band with 3 vocalists. Dance to the big band music of the 40s, including Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, and George Gershwin. The Minidoka Swing Band, started in 2007, was created to reflect the music of Japanese Internment camps during WWII. Minidoka, Idaho was the internment camp for Japanese Americans living in Oregon and Washington.
Forget about food rationing! The Basalt Rock Café will serve dishes popular during the era, including Beef Bourguignon, Smoked Salmon Dijon Crème Fraiche Canapes, Crab Mornay, Parmesan Scalloped Potato Stacks and more. Sip on 1940s style cocktails to round out the evening.
