Local author Vikki Claflin will give a talk on her latest novel at the Hood River Library on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m.
Claflin's novel, “Who left the cork out of my lunch?” is full of funny and informative how-to lists, advice columns, and personal anecdotes that cover the ups and downs of menopause, empty nest syndrome, grandchildren, sex, marriage, age-appropriate fashion, cosmetic intervention, diet fails, beauty tips from Mom, and confidence after 50. Claflin's book is a romp through midlife, full of laughter and advice on how to let go of our youth and start rocking our middle age.
Claflin is an author, humorist, and professional public speaker. Her passion is helping women aged 50 and over find the funny in midlife. Claflin helps women learn to laugh at life, and at themselves, and how to navigate the ups and downs of middle age in a society that worships youth.
This talk is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Hood River County Library District at 541-386-2535, info@hoodriverlibrary.org, or visit their website at hoodriverlibrary.org.

Slocan Ramblers in HR Aug. 16
Slocan Ramblers is stopping by Hood River on their way home from the RockyGrass festival in Colorado. Here’s what the critics say about them: “This Canadian quartet captures the breadth and depth of bluegrass that bands in the chilly North aspire to. If you’ve grown tired of the same old sounds, here’s a band who reinvents a genre that’s growing through many changes of late.”
Tuesday, Aug. 16, 7 p.m. at 401 Montello Ave., Hood River. For more information, call Paul Blackburn at 541-387-4011.
