Columbia Center for the Arts presents the Mt. Hood Independent Film Series film compilation, Best of Student Films on Wednesday, April 23. Honoring the children’s art show this is a series of short student films from last Novembers’ Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival student submission category films. Watch winners in the student category “The Talk” and “Volar En Linea Recta,” along with several other outstanding student films. You will be amazed by what these young film makers contributed. None of the films have been rated but all are appropriate for children and adults alike. Showtime 7:30 p.m.; tickets are $5 and available at the door. ‘Art of Movement’ April 26
Join Columbia Center for the Arts and Columbia Gorge Dance Academy for a celebration of local dance on Saturday, April 26, when “Art of Movement” returns to Columbia Center for the Arts. “Art of Movement will celebrate with two performances at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. This event will showcase a wide range of dance and movement available in the Columbia Gorge, including exciting new works from Columbia Gorge Dance Academy’s Company Dancers, Scarlet Thistle Tribal Dancers. Explore the Lindy Hop, salsa, hip hop, tap, performance yoga and more. The evening will include special guests Zapp Dance Company from Eugene.

‘Magical Journeys’ Sinfonietta concert May 2, 4
The Columbia Gorge Sinfonietta, directed by Mark Steighner, will be performing a program of music by Mendelssohn, including the “Hebrides” overture (Fingal’s Cave) and a violin concerto performed by Kristian Apland at Wy’east Middle School on Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m.
Also on the program are the overture to “Pirates of Penzance” and Magical Musical Journeys featuring music from Play: A Videogame Symphony, including selections from The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Skyrim. Suggested donation is $10.
Elks swing dance April 24
The Hood River Elks Club welcomes on Thursday, April 24, the Simcoe Boys Band playing country-western and swing music dancing. Dancing will begin at 7 p.m. and admission is $8. Event is 21 and over only. Dinner is available before the dance at 6 p.m. (cost of dinner includes dance admission). Elks Lodge, 304 Cascade Ave., Hood River. For more information call 541-386-1507.
