The eighth annual Wasco Salmon/Steelhead Tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014.
Launch time is 5-8 a.m. at Heritage Landing at the junction of the Deschutes and Columbia rivers, about 20 miles east of The Dalles. Fishing will be allowed in the Columbia only.
“Weigh in” is between 1-3 p.m. in the City of Wasco, which is nine miles east of the launch site on easy paved roads. Prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. There will be first and second place winners in the men, women and categories. New this year is the “wounded warrior” division and participating veterans are invited to fish for free and may bring their own helper, if needed.
The grand prize for the largest overall fish will be a Nichols Art Glass original hand-blown fish. There is an “I, also, fished (but didn’t catch anything)” category that will award 12 brown paper bags with at least $20 prizes in each.
Participants must have all required licenses and a Lower Deschutes River Boater Pass (available at the launch site). The entry fee of $20 for adults and $5 for youth includes a hamburger/hot dog type of lunch.
There will also be a silent auction.
The weigh-in takes place at Wasco’s historic 120 year old railroad depot, so allow time to check out the railroad items, photos, and a large model railroad set up in the freight area. Spectators are welcome and can purchase a hamburger/hot dog lunch and participate in the silent auction.
