Last month’s “Be A Hero Zumbathon” event benefiting the Matt McCabe family was a big success, announced organizer Alicia Beckman.
“The bounce house, face painting, balloon sculptures, auction, raffle and photo booth saw non-stop action during the 90-minute dance party featuring Zumba Fitness for kids and adults. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our guests and sponsors, we raised more than $2,600 for the McCabe family.”

McCabe, 40, and wife Jillian, and their 5-year-old autistic son, London, “have been a vibrant part of the Hood River Community for many years,” Beckman said.
“Last September Matt was hit suddenly with stroke-like symptoms that were first diagnosed as multiple sclerosis; further testing revealed an inoperable apricot-sized mass on his brain stem. He deteriorated rapidly and was close to death for several long weeks, but through amazing new therapies and extensive treatment at Providence St. Vincent and MCMC in The Dalles, he is slowly making an incredible recovery. His sudden and total disability resulted in a 100 percent loss of income for his young family.”
