WASCO CO. — In accordance with ORS 308.290 the Business Personal Property return must be filed with the Assessment and Tax office no later than March 15.
Every year, a complete listing must be furnished of all the taxable business personal property owned by, or in the possession of the taxpayer and situated in the county as of Jan. 1. Only information that will aid the assessor in arriving at the maximum assessed value, assessed value and real market value shall be required in the list (ORS 308.285). The Taxpayer’s Declaration on the return must be signed by the taxpayer, or the managing agent or officer in order for the form to be validated and considered filed.
There is a penalty for late filing. The penalty is a percentage of the tax, which is 5% of taxable value if the return is filed after March 15, but on or before June 1. The penalty increases to 25% if the return is filed after June 1, but on or before Aug. 1.
After Aug. 1, the penalty is 50% of the tax owed (ORS 308.296).
On any failure to file the required return, the property shall be listed and assessed from the best information obtainable from other sources. ORS 308.290(6).
