HOOD RIVER — The Oct. 27 city council meeting began with Community Engagement Coordinator Jackie Vanderpuye introducing the most recent graduates of Hood River 101 Civics Academy.

The cohort of seven attended six weeks of classes featuring sessions on each of the city’s core departments, made possible by a collaboration with The Next Door and a grant through the Oregon Immigrant and Refugee Funder Collaborative (OIRFC); $2,000 was budgeted for program costs that included meals, interpretation and supplies.
