THE DALLES — All five members of the Northern Wasco County People’s Utility District (NWCPUD) Board of Directors have achieved the Director Gold credential from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), it was announced Aug. 13.
“As the only Oregon PUD that is a member of NRECA, this remarkable accomplishment makes NWCPUD’s board members the only PUD board members in Oregon with this distinction. NWCPUD commends directors Daniel Hammel, Roger Howe, Wayne Jacobson, Greg Johnson, and Scott Taylor on this distinction,” said an agency press release.
The Director Gold credential is the highest level of achievement in NRECA’s Board Director Certificate Programs, recognizing those who have already earned their Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) and Board Leadership Certificate (BLC) and who are committed to continuing their education throughout their service on the board. To earn Director Gold, directors must first earn NRECA’s CCD and BLC certificates, plus three additional training credits from the BLC courses.
“Effective governance is critical to our ability to navigate the complex challenges facing the utility industry and to continue to provide value to our customer-owners,” said NWCPUD General Manager and CEO Roger Kline. “I appreciate our board’s commitment to excellence in governance and their dedication to continuous education. Having all five directors achieve Director Gold status demonstrates their unwavering commitment to regulating NWCPUD with the highest level of expertise and professionalism. This comprehensive training ensures our board has the advanced knowledge and skills needed to successfully guide our ambitious 2025-2035 Strategic Plan.”
For NWCPUD’s customer-owners, this achievement means their locally elected representatives are equipped with the most comprehensive training available in the utility industry, ensuring they can effectively advocate for community interests while making informed decisions about the utility’s future, said the press release.
The Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate is a set of five courses that focus on basic governance knowledge and the essential skills required of electric utility directors.
