Christmas giving — Lyle Lions distributed toys and thousands of pounds of food to 108 families for the Christmas holiday in partnership with other local organizations. Dallesport Fire Department held their annual ELF food collection event, Lyle Fire Department received cases of new toys, and Mt. Adams Fruit donated cases of apples and pears from Duckwall, all of which were included in the Christmas baskets.
Additionally, Columbia Grange 87 provided space (and muscle) for Mindy’s Third Annual Toy Giveaway, which helped families in need Gorge-wide make a better Christmas for their children.
Community Health Assessment — The Columbia Gorge Health Council (CGHC) and the Community Advisory Council (CAC) announced that the 2024 Community Health Assessment (CHA) is complete. The information gathered for the CHA will inform community-wide strategies to address the region's highest-priority needs. CGHC, the CAC, and local agencies will create collaborative strategies in drafting the 2025 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHP.)  The CHP will guide CGHC spending for the next several years. The 2024 CHA found that the lack of affordable housing and access to medical and behavioral health care, ranging from adequate services of all care types to workforce development opportunities, are opportunities to improve health across Wasco and Hood River Counties. Each Oregon region that serves Medicaid/OHP members includes a Community Advisory Council (CAC).
You can find the complete 2024 Community Health Assessment online at our Columbia Gorge Health Dashboard, www.cghealthycommunity.org, along with the ‘Executive Summary.' You can also search for ‘Community Advisory Council’ to find applications to join, calendars of upcoming meetings, and notes from past meetings.
