Construction notice — Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway is performing “heavy maintenance” on its bridge over the White Salmon River, according to a company spokesperson, who was unable to specify how those efforts will impact recreation at the mouth. The project, which includes limited in-water work, should be complete by the end of next year. There’s no planned work at night, on the holidays or on weekends, she said.
Holiday donations for YES — Donations to buy gifts and services for young people at the The Youth Empowerment Shelter (YES) are being collected during the holidays. The Dalles shelter offers a safe space for youth ages 10-24. You can choose how your money will be used — celebrations of a birthday or other milestone, a basic needs kit for a youth arriving at YES or moving to a transition house, one week of homecooked meals, a night of shelter — or opt to pay some of YES’ bills for a month.
