WHITE SALMON — Heartsong Living Arts hosts the second annual Mayfaire celebration May 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rheingarten Park. The kickoff to White Salmon’s Wildflower Festival, Mayfaire brings community together for a day of springtime celebrations with music, food, creative activities, and time-honored local traditions, such as the Maypole Dance — all free of charge.
The Maypole Dance was a mainstay of Spring Fest from the 1970s through 1990s. Meaningful to many residents, the roots of this tradition can be traced to the German heritage of the settlers of this area. Heartsong Living Arts is reintroducing this tradition in a new and inclusive manner, inviting all members of the community to join us in rejoicing the wonders of spring.
After a successful inaugural event last year, Heartsong has expanded the festival, bringing child and family-centered non-profits, schools and community-minded businesses into the fold. These organizations are hosting craft booths, offering a free handicraft or activity for children to engage with. From the classic Maypole Dance and live music, to face painting, traditional dance performances, and even a community soup — everything at Mayfaire is provided at no cost to attendees, ensuring that all children and families have the opportunity to engage, create, and celebrate without barriers.
