HOOD RIVER — Hood River County School District (HRCSD) has announced the appointment of Kathy Lloyd as the Interim Assistant Principal for May Street Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year, following a hiring process that included a committee of teachers and staff.
Lloyd has extensive experience within public school districts. Most recently, she served as the HRCSD Extended School Year (ESY) coordinator from June-August 2025. Before that position, she was an instructional coach at May Street Elementary from July 2024 to June 2025. In her role as an instructional coach, she collaborated with the principal and vice principal to develop a school vision for student learning and led professional development at both the school and district levels. She also developed and facilitated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Core Review meetings and collaborated with various staff to implement the school improvement plan.
"Kathy brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of our school community to this interim role," said May Street Elementary Principal Dan Barnard. "Her work as an instructional coach and her active participation in district-level meetings on topics such as inclusive practices, equity, and the MTSS development team demonstrate her commitment to student success and collaborative leadership."
Before her time in Hood River, Lloyd served as a learning specialist in the Lake Oswego School District for nearly a decade, managing and training special education assistants, leading Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, and creating weekly social-emotional learning instruction for K-5 classrooms. She holds a Master's of Education from Portland State University.
"We are confident that Kathy’s leadership will provide stability and continued progress for May Street Elementary during this interim period," said Barnard. "Her experience in a variety of educational settings and her dedication to student growth will be invaluable."
The school district will conduct a comprehensive search for a permanent assistant principal for May Street Elementary in the spring of 2026.
