Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Forester Glenn Ahrens
HOOD RIVER — OSU Hood River Extension Central Gorge Master Gardeners invite home gardeners, landowners, and nature enthusiasts to the next Garden Gathering workshop, Managing to Keep Trees Healthy, led by Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Forester Glenn Ahrens. This free educational session will provide insight into assessing and managing tree and forest health, especially in the face of changing environmental conditions.
Is something wrong with your trees? Do you wonder how climate change may affect forests in our region? In this workshop, Ahrens will explore the complex and interrelated causes of tree health problems, from environmental stressors like climate and soil conditions to interactions with insects, diseases, and tree aging. Attendees will learn how to spot potential problems and take proactive steps to support healthy landscapes.
Ahrens, Forestry & Natural Resources agent with the OSU Extension Service in Oregon City, brings decades of experience diagnosing tree health issues and guiding landowners through sustainable forest management practices.
Two sessions of the Garden Gathering Managing to Keep Trees Healthy workshop will be offered:
Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m. at OSU Hood River County Extension, 2990 Experiment Station Drive
Tuesday, June 17, 6:30 p.m. at the White Salmon Library, 77 NE Wauna Ave.
"Tree health is not just about pests or disease," Ahrens said. "It's often the result of multiple, interacting factors like drought, site conditions, and age. This session will help people understand what trees need and how to support long-term health."
