HOOD RIVER — “Free Speech and the Press” is the topic of a community-wide forum on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Rockford Grange beginning at 6:30 p.m. Childcare and youth activities will be provided.
The Gorge UU Fellowship invites all persons interested in the future of a free press in Columbia Gorge to participate, listen and share.
Guest speakers include Emily Harris, Uplift Local, Trisha Walker and Sean Avery, Columbia Gorge News, Arturo Leyva, Radio Tierra, and Susan Hess, Columbia Insight. Richard (Dick) Withers, retired lawyer, will serve as moderator.
This is the first forum sponsored by the Mid-Columbia Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in a new monthly series of community-wide conversations on issues related to the democratic process.
The series is planned for the third Thursday of each month addressing the foundations of American democracy including rights of assembly, religion, free and fair elections, the right to vote, access to information, open government proceedings and an independent judiciary.
“Our goal is to provide a meaningful opportunity for all in our community to share information and perspectives, to listen and learn, and to promote active participation in sustaining and promoting a healthy democracy especially close to home,” said Withers.
