KLICKITAT CO. — Klickitat County Sheriff Bob Songer has reported that, on June 1, Deputy Timothy Neher attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Highway 97. A pursuit began when the driver did not stop.
In a press release, Songer said that, shortly after the pursuit began, dispatch received a report of a burglary that had happened earlier. Neher continued pursuit; the suspect vehicle went off the road, colliding with a semi-truck traveling in the same direction.
The suspect vehicle was damaged and eventually came to a stop off the roadway, with the suspect running from the scene, Songer said. Neher went to check on the driver of the semi while other law enforcement was arriving.
The suspect vehicle was found to be stolen out of Yakima County, and items from the reported burglary were recovered inside.
“Despite the efforts of multiple agencies, the suspect got away … for now,” Songer said. Those with information about the suspect are asked to contact dispatch at 509-773-4545 to be connected to a deputy.
Songer thanked the Washington State Patrol, Washington State Parks and Recreation Department, Goldendale Police Department, Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, and the Klickitat County Department of Emergency Management for their assistance.
