THE GORGE — Gorge Grown Food Network and Underwood Conservation District team up to coordinate monthly Crop Talks at local farms across the Gorge. Crop Talks provide vital networking and resource-sharing opportunities to local producers and farmers in our region.
Crop Talks are a unique opportunity for farmers, growers, and agricultural enthusiasts to come together in a welcoming, informal setting to connect, share, and learn. Each event is designed to foster community and collaboration, starting with an insightful farm tour that gives participants a firsthand look at the host farm’s practices, innovations, and challenges. This is a chance to explore different farming methods, see new tools or techniques in action, and ask questions directly in the field.
Following the tour, there’s ample time for discussion. Participants can exchange practical advice, share creative farm hacks, troubleshoot problems, and offer support based on real-world experience. These conversations often lead to new ideas, stronger relationships, and even ongoing collaborations. Crop Talks wrap up with a potluck meal and a sense of shared purpose and mutual support that defines the farming community. Whether you're a seasoned farmer or just starting out, Crop Talks are a great way to build knowledge, solve problems together, and celebrate the spirit of agriculture.
The 2025 Crop Talk season kicked off at London Acres in Snowden in April. The next Crop Talk is May 22 and will be held at Oak Rose Farm, a certified organic vegetable and berry farm in Hood River. This year’s Crop Talk hosts also include Estelbrook Farm & Vineyards, Apple Core Farm, Trout Lake Farm and Allegre Farms/ Big Barn Organics.
