THE GORGE — OSU Hood River County Extension and the Central Gorge Master Gardeners welcome home gardeners of all abilities to attend the Garden Gathering series of monthly educational workshops. These free and informative presentations are held each month through October and are designed to be interactive and support your growth as a gardener.
Upcoming workshops:
• March 10 at 6 p.m. at the Hood River Library
• March 14 at 10 a.m. at the OSU Hood River County Extension Office
Cheryl Rice, Hood River Soil and Water Conservation District (HRSWCD), will present “Wildly Wonderful Native Plants.” She will begin with an introduction to native plants and their adaptation to our local environment, followed by a discussion of the importance of incorporating native plants into landscapes — especially as our climate changes. The session will cover native plant materials, sourcing options (both purchasing and propagating), and design tips to help you create your own native plant garden.
Since August 2024, Rice has served as a conservation technician with HRSWCD. Prior to this role, she spent 21 years teaching high school science in Oregon and Maryland. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy and a master’s degree in Education. In 2016, she and her family relocated to Hood River.
Garden Gathering workshops are listed on the Central Gorge Master Gardener website at centralgorgemga.org, on Facebook and Instagram @centralgorgemastergardeners, and in Columbia Gorge News print and online editions.
