National Fire Plan funding has been secured for a joint project between Washington State University Cooperative Extension (WSU), Skamania County, and the Underwood Fire District to survey homes in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), to improve safety of people living in the WUI, and of firefighters in the event of a forest fire.
This project will be conducted in the Underwood area beginning Aug. 1, 2005. Be sure to look for a white truck with WSU Wildfire Survey on the side!
Survey information is used by fire districts to improve response time and other suppression activities and can also be used to identify areas for reducing hazardous fuels and areas creating defensible space .
The survey is voluntary.
