Wishkah Valley's one-two punch of seniors Andy Ayres and Chris Bromley knocked out Lyle, 44-18, in non-league 8-man football action last Saturday in Lyle.
The Ayres-Bromley duo combined for 549 yards in total offense and all six Loggers touchdowns.
Ayres ran for 192 yards and two scores and had two receiving scores for another 66 yards. Bromley passed for 158 yards and rushed for 133 and a pair of TDs.
Lyle (0-3) was held to 88 total yards -- all on the ground -- and three first downs by a Wishkah Valley defense that also recovered a Lyle fumble and intercepted one pass.
The Cougars' three touchdowns came on a 75-yard interception return in the first quarter by senior Tyler Essex in the first quarter, and second-half kickoff returns by freshman Travis Cleveland and sophomore Devan Essex.
Essex finished the game with three picks for 86 return yards.
His first came in the first quarter, on a third-and-nine play from the Lyle 26-yard line.
Essex stepped in front of a Bromley pass at the 25 and motored 75 yards untouched for a TD that brought the Cougars within 8-6 at the 3:30 mark.
Wishkah Valley (1-2) pulled away in the second quarter as Ayres and Bromley scored on runs of 7 and 22 yards respectively to boost the Loggers' lead to 22-6.
Lyle had first possession to open the second half but failed to make a first down. However, sophomore Jacob Shuttle's punt was mishandled by Ayres and left the Loggers in a hole at their 11.
But Ayres rambled 26 yards on first down to put Wishkah in business at its own 37.
Seven plays later, Bromley capped the 89-yard drive with a 10-yard scoring run. Ayres added the two-point conversion and Wishkah led 30-6 with 7:03 gone in the third quarter.
Cleveland answered for Lyle on the ensuing kickoff. He picked up the squibbed kick at his own 35 along the visitors' sideline, cut across field and took it the distance.
His second kickoff return in Lyle's last two games made it 30-12. But that was as close as the Cougars would get the rest of the afternoon.
Ayres went 63 yards on the Loggers' third and final possession of the third quarter to complete a 71-yard drive with six seconds left in the period.
That score followed a sequence in which the Cougars' defense forced Wishkah to quick kick out of its end zone on a third-and-17 play from the 5-yard line.
But the Loggers got the ball back when Bromley intercepted Lyle junior Justin Carlson's fourth-and-long pass at his own 32.
In the fourth quarter, Lyle and Wishkah took turns stopping each other before Bromley connected with Ayres on a 35-yard scoring pass for a 44-12 advantage with 1:22 to go in the game.
Lyle's final score came on the kickoff as Essex scampered 75 yards down the Cougars' sideline to make it 44-18 with 64 ticks left on the clock.
Next up for Lyle is a home game this Friday against Ione, Ore. Kickoff for the non-league encounter is set for 7 p.m.
