Hood River Valley freshman Connor Farlow capped his first high school wrestling season with a sixth-place finish at the OSAA Class 5A state tournament Saturday in Redmond.

Dusty Dodge went 3-0 to win his 182-pound bracket, Karen Villa placed third, Zack Tackett tallied fourth place and The Dalles boys wrestling squad claimed 11th place out of 13 teams at the Adrian Irwin Memorial Tournament last weekend in Bend.

At this point of the season, The Dalles senior JR Scott is not focused on his record and what he has accomplished so far. His emphasis is on being more fundamentally sound with Intermountain Conference regional action coming up on Feb. 8-9.

For the first time in nearly a decade, The Dalles wrestlers put it all together with three top-5 finishes to take home ninth place out of 21 teams at the two-day Don York Invitational ending Saturday at Cleveland High School in Portland. In addition to the efforts of Steven Preston’s 160-pound title run with five pins, JR Scott tacked on runner-up status and Austin Greene’s fifth-place output, Eleyah Sutton-Lott enjoyed a second-place charge in the girls division.

A school record-setting 2017-18 season for Columbia High wrestlers that included five Bruins winning medals at the State tournament did not result in a larger turnout for the 2018-19 season.
