We're all going to have fun at the fair this weekend. The food vendors are hard at work making fair food we love to eat. The bakers are baking, the fair board is making sure all of the last minute details are tied down. The runners are running and the walkers are walking to be in shape. Lots of hustle and bustle going on in town. I hope you're all pampering your pets for the pet show. There was a misunderstanding about the time. The pet show will begin at 1:00. instead of 12:15. This will allow those of you who have pets that are not going to be in the parade to go home and get them back to the fair in time for the show. Speaking of the parade, for all of you children who are going to be part of the Noah's Ark entry, please meet at the park to line up and to receive your costumes. Refer to your super fair program that you received in the mail last week for all of the events and times.
The Saturday Market will still be going on at the Grange, so don't get too busy to stop by there. The vendors have great crafts and eats for you to choose from.
There are some locals who are going to miss the fair this year. Andy Jacobsen and his two sons, Dane and Darrin, and his son-in-law, Mark Bourdo, and my sweetie, Dave Scott, are in Alaska. This is a trip that the Jacobsen clan has been planning for at least two years. Paul Garrett was going to go, too, but his rascally back wouldn't cooperate. Andy and three young men rode their motorcycles up the AlCan highway to Anchorage and Dave drove the support van. They made it to Anchorage last Friday on schedule, despite leaving a day late. They went to Homer for fishing on Saturday and Sunday. They're heading back to Anchorage today (Monday) after Dane and Mark do some paragliding (parasailing? whatever). Dave was pretty tired when I talked with him, so I didn't quite understand, but I think they're heading for Denali today or tomorrow. They have a week to explore, before they have to catch the ferry to Seattle next Monday. Who knows what adventures they'll have between now and then.
Meanwhile, back at home, you won't believe it. I've actually harvested five, count 'em-5, tomatoes. Okay, cherry tomatoes, but still. Plus about five pounds of snow peas and an eight ball zucchini and a cucumber and a crook neck squash. The snap peas and the beans have started and I can see five baby bell peppers. Yay! I don't think I did anything different this year, except water a ton more. Hmmm. Water? You think that might have something to do with it? I, also, planted a cover crop in this area where weeds won't even grow. Just for your information, deer love buckwheat and alfalfa. I think it's diverting them from the roses!
