Squrl Music Presents
Blues guitar virtuoso Jimmy Thackery and his band, The Drivers, play the Hood River Hotel this Saturday night, 8-11.
Tickets are $17 and available at the hotel, at 106 Oak St. The performance is a 21-and-over, non-smoking event.
Thackery, known as the premier guitar pyrotechnician on the blues scene today, and The Drivers will burn through a set of blues rockers featuring music from their seventh -- and latest -- release, "We Got It."
The 11-song "We Got It" is a semi-tribute to southern bluesman Eddie Hinton. Thackery covers eight Hinton songs and offers three new tunes he penned himself.
Noted the Boston Globe in one review: "Jimmy Thackery is a four-hour performer. That's not how long he plays, that's how far one should travel to see him. He's a phenomenal guitarist, one of the best we've seen."
And if you miss this show, you can always catch Thackery and The Drivers in concert on Friday, July 5, from 6-7 p.m. at the 2002 Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland.
Pray For Wind Party
The eighth annual Pray For Wind Party at the Hood River Expo Center this Saturday night will feature three musical performances between 7 and midnight.
The event is sponsored by the Columbia Gorge Windsurfing Association, Full Sail Brewery, Hood River County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Council, and Windsurfing Magazine.
Advance tickets are $10 for adults and can be purchased at Big Winds, Windance and Wingwing in Hood River. Door prices are $12 for adults, $8 for students; kicks 12 and under get in free.
KatzenJammer -- Gorge residents Tobias Ammon on violin and Dieter Nachmann on accordion -- opens at 7.
Ammon and Nachmann call on their European backgrounds and musical training as they faithfully try to keep alive an endangered musical species that is derivative of world music and part invention.
Blue Trick, founded in Raleigh, N.C., in 1999, takes the stage at 8.
The rock trio of Charlene Brinster, Susan Franklin and Mike Brinster, which settled in Hood River last fall, will play cover tunes seldom heard on commercial radio, as well as songs from its growing list of original material.
Blue Trick released its debut CD, "The Way of the Traveler," in the summer of 2000 and is currently working on its second, scheduled for release this summer.
The Grand Simple will close out the party, starting at 10. The Portland-based pop rock group comprises Hood River natives Brian Henry, Philip Maddux, Tony Smiley and Luke McKern.
The singers/songwriters/multi-instrumentalists, who've been playing together since the late 1980s, are known for their high-energy live performances and a sound described as eclectic, groove-based pop combining elements of folk and fusion rock.
Play Misty River For Me
The CAST Performing Arts Center presents Pacific Northwest-based band Misty River in concert this Saturday in Hood River, at 105 4th St.
Misty River will perform a wide variety of Americana music from familiar folk, country and bluegrass favorites to Celtic tunes, haunting ballads and award-winning original songs.
Misty River is an all-female acoustic quartet (two of whom are mother and daughter) which supports its blend of harmonic voices with guitar, fiddle, accordion, banjo and bass.
The band tours nationally and has released two albums, the latest of which recently earned Misty River a spot as one of the top-selling Northwest bands in the Portland area.
The group's credits include numerous first-place awards in band and songwriting contests and a semifinalist spot at the regional Lilith Fair Talent Search.
Tickets for this Nature Conservancy benefit are $10 at the door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8.

Granada Summer Concerts Continue
The Granada Theatre Foundation's summer concert series continues Saturday, June 29, 8 p.m. with the fun, danceable tunes by two popular Mid-Columbia bands.
Opening the show will be Sherman County's own Loose Gravel with a great mix of classic rock-n-roll. Band members include Bryan Peters, Scott Thompson, Dave Jeffers, Ken Melzer and Dennis Scoggins.
Continuing the night will be another popular band in the Mid-Columbia playing original country/blues. The Fenderbenders have spent several decades performing for large audiences across the U.S. Having played in Nashville and large festivals around the Northwest, these seasoned pros have their tunes being played in France, the Netherlands and Australia. Members of the band include Les Vaughn, Ted Matzen, Alan Hare, Jose Maya, and newest member Mike Rouille.
Tickets for this fun night are $5 general, $8 reserved for those 21 and over. Tickets available at Klindts Annex, or at the door.
