Columbia High's junior varsity squad improved to 6-3 with victories last week at Stevenson and La Center.
The Junior Bruins served the ball at a 95-percent clip (42/44) in defeating the Bulldog Pups, 25-20, 26-24, 15-10 on Oct. 7
Six players recorded perfect marks from the stripe. Kara Woosley, Ashley Neff and Erin McCutcheon each put 11-of-11 serves in play to lead the way.
McCutcheon paced the Junior Bruins' offensive attack, connecting on 15 of 17 spike attempts. Neff went 6 for 8, and Michele Shrum was 5 for 5.
CHS's defensive effort got three digs each from Neff, McCutcheon, Dani Gilderhus and Ashley St. George.
The Junior Bruins turned in one of their worst serving performances of the season at La Center last Thursday but prevailed nonetheless, winning the first two sets, 25-18, 25-18. The Wildcat Kittens took the third, 15-12.
Columbia made good on just 46-of-59 serves attempts (78 percent). But it offset that with a strong attack (22/24 attempts, 92 percent).
Gilderhus led the Junior Bruins in both serving and hitting, going 10 for 10 from the service line and 5 for 5 at the net.
Defensive standouts included McCutcheon (4/4 digs), Jessica Kealaiki (3/3 digs) and Jenny Pulido (2/2 digs).
Football:
CHS sophomore Mason Giovannoni scored on a 15-yard run to cap the opening drive of Monday night's junior varsity football game at Stevenson.
But that was it for the Junior Bruins (2-2), who fell to the Bulldog Pups, 13-7.
Stevenson broke a 6-6 halftime tie with a touchdown late in the third quarter.
